To celebrate the production of the 900,000th MX-5 Miata, Mazda has announced plans to launch the Kendo special edition in the United Kingdom.
Available in Dolphin Grey or Sparkling Black, the limited edition draws its name from the Kendo martial art (The way of the Sword) which is "renowned for its fighting spirit, eye-catching dynamic movement and refinement." It is based on the SE trim package and features exclusive stone leather heated seats, brushed aluminum trim, a BOSE audio system, Bluetooth connectivity, and unique 17-inch alloy wheels.
The soft top model is powered a 1.8-liter engine that develops 126 PS (93 kW / 125 hp) and 167 Nm (123 lb-ft) of torque. It enables the car to accelerate from 0-62 mph in 9.9 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 121 mph (195 km/h). In terms of efficiency, owners can expect a combined 39.8 mpg (imp) and CO2 emissions of 167 g/km.
On the other hand, the hard top uses a 2.0-liter engine with 160 PS (118 kW / 158 hp) and 188 Nm (139 lb-ft) of torque. Thanks to the extra power, the MX-5 accelerates from 0-62 mph in 7.9 seconds and has a top speed of 135 mph (217 km/h). However, the car remains relatively frugal as it has an average fuel consumption of 37.2 mpg (imp) and CO2 emissions of 177 g/km.
The MX-5 Kendo will go on sale on March 1st and prices start at £19,255 (OTR).
